DESCRIPTION

Delicate, smoky. A harmonious blend of cow’s and goat’s milk. Unique to Gran Canaria.

Milk type: Pasteurised cow's and goat's milk

From: Vega de San Mateo, Gran Canaria

Net weight: 240g

Our Vega de San Mateo cheese is crafted amidst the lush landscapes of Vega de San Mateo in the heart of the island of Gran Canaria. "Vega" translates to meadow, symbolising the rich biodiversity of the land. Cheeses similar to this one are produced across all of the Canary Islands, with each variety named after either the island or the maker.

The cheese is made from a blend of cow’s and goat’s milk, sourced exclusively from local producers. This special combination of Canarian milks gives the cheese a flavour profile you won't find anywhere else. Similar in style to halloumi but with a more delicate texture, this cheese is best dry-fried on a hot plancha grill for 20 seconds on each side, creating a crispy exterior. Pair with vibrant green and red mojo sauces for an authentic Canarian touch.

Its supple texture and mild, moreish, smoky flavour also make it perfect for blending into fillings or enjoying as a gooey cheese on toast.

Experience the taste of Gran Canaria with every bite.
