Welcome to our newly refitted food shop.
Balham has been the centre of Brindisa’s operations for over 20 years. We have had our warehouse here since 2000. We pioneered the retail market at Borough Market in the mid-90s, have innovated a string of 5 tapas restaurants across London and set up shop here in Hildreth Street 6 years ago to cater for all your speciality food needs.
Our focus has always been on great food with incredible flavours, often hand-made by small producers. Our expertise is Spanish food, but our products, such as our chorizos, Manchego cheeses and pulses, are endlessly versatile and used by chefs and shopkeepers across the UK for all kinds of cuisines. In fact, in the early 90s, Brindisa’s first generation of UK customers were not Spanish chefs but British chefs, and our products were on sale across London’s famous food halls …. They bought from us because of the quality and flavour of the food.
So, we would like to invite you all back to our shop. We have improved the space in multiple ways, and we hope to offer you a more dynamic, integrated service as you shop with us: more chat, information and opportunity to guide you through our foods, cheeses, wines and sherries.
Given our love of small batch production, ancient varietals, and local small producers, we have added a few new UK-made artisan foods and will continue to add to our Spanish range with these locally sourced products. Our first contenders from the UK are:
- Bread from BreadBread in Herne Hill
- Sourdough crackers and digestives made with ancient grains in Devon by Fresh Flour Company,
- Pickles and jams for cheese from England Preserves, a small batch maker in Bermondsey,
- Smoked salmon and smoked salmon pate from Smoke & Cure in Streatham.
These outstanding foods will shine next to the best of our Spanish anchovies, our famous blue cheeses, and, of course, our acorn-fed Ibérico hams!
All of us at Brindisa, from our shop teams to our drivers and managers, are really
happy to welcome you to our food shop! We ask in advance for your patience as we settle into our new space and get used to our new systems, beautiful slicer, Bertie the Berkel, extensive cheese selection and a new team dynamic!
