Gavino Rosemary Olive Oil Biscuits 170g

£4.75

Tortas Gaviño have been making our olive oil biscuits for years and we recently decided to switch to their branding. The packaging may have changed but the biscuits are exactly the same taste and quality.

The olive oil torta, a flat, unleavened biscuit, was first invented several hundred years ago to provide an easily portable snack for stagecoach passengers passing through the city of Seville.

Now made in several different flavours, the biscuit with rosemary is herby, crisp and flaky and is excellent eaten with cheese.

Contains 6 tortas per pack

When was Tortas Gaviño founded?

Tortas Gaviño, founded by local doctor who was a firm believer in the health benefits of olive oil, have been producing and selling them since 1930.

When were the olive oil tortas (tortas de aceite) first invented?

Although there is evidence that these type of biscuits have probably been made for hundreds or even thousands of years in the region, the first branded tortas de aceite were created in 1910 by Ines Rosales in the village of Castilleja de la Cuesta and were sold at Seville railway station. It may well be that she was following a tradition of producing these as a convenient snack for travelers.
