Not far from Na Foradada there is the beautiful village of Valldemossa (many international celebrities have chosen it to spend their holidays there) it is a very traditional Mallorcan mountain village, very welcoming and were you can enjoy their traditional Coca de Patata (Sweet sponge cakes made with potato flour) together with a delicious Almond Milk, there are many almond trees in Mallorca so almonds are used in a lot of Majorcan confectioneries.
But, as we talk about cakes, the most popular cake from Mallorca is the Ensaimada, its name comes from the word “saim” with means pork lard, which is one of its ingredients and the reason why they are quite rich and moist. For me, the best place to enjoy them is Ca’n Joan de s’Aigo in Palma, who is making them since 1700. They also make homemade ice cream very worth trying.
One of my favourite restaurants and also a very good one to enjoy traditional Majorcan Food is Celler Ca’n Ripoll in Inca, in the centre of the Island. It’s a 70 year old restaurant ran by a local family, it is located in a natural heritage building which was a wine cellar since 1768, you actually seat next to big old barrels of wine which is a nice experience.
And to finish with, my favourite beach: Cala Barques in the South West coast. It is quite difficult to find as the access by car is limited; you need to leave your car and walk for about 40 minutes to get to the best spot. The water is as blue as in a swimming pool and there is a natural bridge formed by rocks and the natural sea erosion from where it is good fun to jump into the water!
